The Gibson Hummingbird has been a part of their acoustic guitar lineup since 1960. It was one of the earliest square shoulder acoustics to come from Gibson and became an instant success. This pro version may not be period accurate but it is an incredible modern masterpiece.
A Classic Reinvented
This guitar originally got its name from its intricately designed pickguard. The original pickguard showed a hummingbird feeding off of flowers but this is a lot more plain. Yes this guitar instead has a tortoiseshell style pickguard that is not anywhere near as elaborate.
Because of that though it has a more dignified and modern look that will never appear out of place. After all this guitar is designed to be for the gigging guitarist who plays a range of styles.
Solid Build
Much like the original Hummingbirds this guitar is built to last by the best luthiers Gibson have available. That is why they still use the same Sitka Spruce top and Mahogany back that made the original so popular. These woods deliver a powerful midrange punchy sound with great low end response.
Matched up with a Mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard you get great playability as well as great tone. It still features the classic 1960's neck profile that gave this guitar a particular premium feel. If you love digging in to big beautiful chords this guitar will feel right at home.
Stage Ready
Every acoustic guitar now has to be ready for the stage. No matter what kid of electronics it has inside it needs to sound great trough any PA. Gibson have got that down with this guitar thanks to the Fishman Prefix Plus-T preamp. Fishman are the original creators of the piezo so saying they deliver the perfect sound through any PA is not much of an understatement.
